Sugar Shock – You haven’t lived until you’ve tried the famous Brownie Waffle Sundae at the 101 Coffee Shop, the iconic cafe featured in Swingers. A couple weeks ago, I had lunch with my friend Billy at Birds Cafe in Beachwood Canyon, then talked him into walking down the street to the 101 to experience ‘just a few bites’ of the brownie waffle. We somehow ended up annihilating the entire thing (oops)!
Every few years, I catch up with Billy and wonder why we don’t hang more often before immediately falling right back into the pattern. He’s a really talented filmmaker I met 15 years ago at an IFP panel on indie filmmaking. We sat a couple seats apart, bonded and ended up trading a tour of his film school for a tour of a TV show I was working on (yes, we are geeks). He’s one of the more unique people I’ve met here and I just found out he’s about to head abroad to teach English and finish his next screenplay on the road. Safe travels, Billy, and see you in a few years…
