StyleSpotting – I was mesmerized the first time I walked into Zero + Maria Cornejo on Melrose Place. In addition to loving the airy loft like space, I was drawn to Cornejo’s asymmetrical silk designs. She cuts clothing like an artist, in unique shapes that drape well on the body. The Chilean born and New York based designer opened her original storefront in Nolita, then expanded the brand with a partner. They added a second store in the Meatpacking District and the Melrose Place location just a year ago. I ended up there for their pre-fall collection event and got an exclusive look at Cornejo and her staff in action – and incredibly attentive.

Maria Cornejo fits her fashion industry client in different looks. The term Zero is based on her minimalist concept and you can go inside after the jump.

A trio of interesting shapes. You can find the one on the right on the designer toward the bottom, worn as a blouse. Clever.

I was so curious about this dress – and it turns out the image is an iphone shot of the designer’s daughter, taken on Long Island. She has a few other designs in this sexy printed silk.

The store was also hosting the event The Artful Glass of Paula Hayes, featuring both living terrariums and others with a bed of gems. You can get a closer look below and covered here.

Manager Kimberly represents in their Spring Summer 2011 Collection. (The first time I met her, she had one side of her hair pinned back and I thought it should be the new trend.) #lettingmyhairgrow

She was stunning and I hope she took this look home with her.

Shoegazing: I was crushing on Maria’s white leather shoes and the texture I couldn’t quite capture on camera added a subtle cool. For shoes, she collaborates with designer Eileen Shields.

And they come in black!

Smart.

She had a hard time deciding…

… but she didn’t.

Cornejo’s wearing that dress I mentioned above as a draped blouse here.

Unchained – Maria also collaborates with Victoria Simes for the store’s jewelry and I’m so curious to see their latest collection.

The shop felt like an escape and it was hard to leave! These are last days of her markdowns if you want to partake – and her Fall Winter 2011 Collection is so cozy cool. If you’re in LA, keep an eye on this space. They’re going to be having a lot of interesting events you won’t want to miss.
