Hear how Brandon made his DIY bling shirt for "The Price is Right" taping
Brandon got 'tagged' by friends after "The Price is Right"
Brandon, Come on Doooown! - Exactly how many times in my lifetime will I spot a group of cool kids after a taping of The Price is Right? Just once, which might explain why I leapt out of my chair at The Farm (next door to iconic CBS Television City) to try to get a shot of the guy who’d been “tagged” by his friends. We shot a short guerilla video about Brandon’s homemade bling shirt and whether he and his friends ever got called down. [Style has a story. You can watch the video BELOW.]
A special wink to you-know-who, momentarily abandoned during dinner for my tomfoolery. You can find StyleSpotting.com on facebook here and twitter here. Brandon & friends, thanks for playing and give me a shout when you see this!
Fragments - I spotted Nym, a photographer visiting from Taiwan, as she made her way down Abbot Kinney Blvd, heading to Intelligentsia Coffee with her friends. Her unique spirit and graceful style caught my eye and I was instantly crazy for her mismatched earrings, one of my long standing style obsessions. She paired this orange earring, a remnant of a broken necklace originally designed by her artist friend, with a favorite purple beaded earring and somehow the eclectic pairing worked. Nym says the earring artist is Mam at Chachujak Market, “the awesome weekend market in Bangkok.” [Click the top image for a closer look]
Nym is a storyteller through her writing and photography and her work can be found via her agency OnAsia.com. You can go to advanced search, choose Korakot Punlopruska under contributors and you’ll find her impressive range of images (cue wanderlust). On that note, Nym’s bag is from Thailand and she picked up the sheer blouse with dolman sleeves in Hanoi.
Who Wears Short Shorts? Cute twenty-somethings like blogger Arielle Noa can pull it off. Nothing so new about short shorts, but I’m loving the pocket fallout that I’m spotting all over LA. Click me for the full story.
StyleSpotting Sexy Summer Bralettes – Being in hot, sexy Miami inspired me to have a little more fun with bras and the cutest things I’m finding are the lighter bralettes, perfect when you want to skip a few buttons! I’ve included a sexy selection after the jump and you’ll see I’ve become quite smitten with journelle. Ooh la la. CLICK HERE for my favorite sexy summer peek-a-boo bras:
I like it, I love it, I want some more of it! – Ok, I finally played with the iPad tonight and MUST have one. I took a video of stylespotting.com displayed horizontally & vertically so you can see for yourself. (My birthday is coming up soon, nudge nudge).
[VIDEO] Metric System – Metric’s singer Emily Haines & Designer Alana Kakia show us how they customize Emily’s costumes and talk about the challenges of staying fashionable & feminine onstage. I got to meet Emily and catch some of their first LA shows way back when, thanks to HC, and she is tiny and talented.
Ok, I’ve been running celebrity pieces for a while now and have a couple more fun things in the can, but will be segueing into more streetstyle, how-to and shopping gradually this week with a lot more coming up. I’ve just had more meetings about stylespotting than I anticipated (which is good) and have some photos resting in a fancy, very intimidating camera that will surface after I hook up all the tech. Go easy on me at first. Asking for my first street shot was a very scary thing and I literally ran off afterward without even catching their names – and I might even show you those snaps soon. StyleSpotting: How to Shoot Celebrities: When you live in LA, seeing celebrities is nearly an every day occurrence and usually not a big deal. On the rare occasion that you’d like to snap one for, oh say, a style website you’re launching, you’d be surprised how fast you grow a pair. I snapped Kevin Jonas for you!
Scenario: I was lollygagging at Fred Segal cafe when Kevin Jonas and his wife Danielle breezed through both cafes without any fanfare. (I was shocked that the paparazzi wasn’t lying in wait outside.) I had no intention of shooting them until I saw them posing for a couple people, so I thought I’d try asking, too – and they actually accommodated! I learned a few things that day, so here are some rules for shooting a celebrity:
RULE 1: Just ask. See how excited they get about posing for a complete stranger. Yet again.
RULE 2: When they ask if you want to be in the shot, politely decline standing next to people this young and thin (and famous) or you’ll only end up feeling bad about yourself.
RULE 3: Get the money shot before they get nervous upon realizing that the tiny contraption in your hand has actually been shooting video (with rare shots of them together) this entire time.
RULE 4: Say bu-bye without expecting to be best friends. (Hey guys, callllll meeee!)
* Let it be said that Kevin and Danielle were truly among the nicest humans I’ve met and a sweet couple. Come back for more SHOOTING STARS thru the weekend! Next up, “My Movie with DREW BARRYMORE! Kind Of.“
DIY: Getting Carded - When I first hand people my business card, they’re distracted by the weight of the thick cardstock (and the fun image of the girl in gold heels I licensed from friend & photographer Michael Friedman). Since I’m always asked where I get them, I thought I’d send you to moo.com. More on the How-to after the jump… Click to see the full post
