Twice as Nice – I spotted Susie Lau a/k/a Susie Bubble before fashion shows for Donna Karan (above) and Marc by Marc Jacobs (below) the very next day. I always love to see what she’s wearing and there’s never a dull moment. She experiments with color, and especially textures, in a way that’s usually inspiring and always entertaining. I love the trademark topknot and that she looks like a living doll.
She talks about what she’s wearing here, with her Suno jacket, Peter Jensen sweaters over a uniqlo heat tech shirt, Miu Miu x Pop Shoes (love!) and a Theyskens for Theory bag.

Everyone after Susie was running to Marc’s show because they’re known to start on time and many VIP’s have been locked out. (That’s why Anna Dello Russo was running here.) P.S. Susie made it.

The Lost Files - I’m happy to have finally found a flash card I misplaced from New York Fashion Week. I’ll be featuring some personal faves this week and next, including some sneak peeks.
I spotted Natalie Suarez after a fashion show at Lincoln Center. She’s a model and a favorite blogger (Natalie Off Duty) that I once interviewed while I was in Los Angeles. I was thrilled to learn she’s now based in New York City and look forward to reading about her favorite places. I was experimenting with a rented lens that afternoon. Can you tell? I liked the pop of her red lipstick and Banana Republic bag, juxtaposed against that luxe coat.
I wonder where Natalie ended up living in the city. I like the simplicity of her bedroom (and the torn T and sparkly sequin shorts). The room reminds me of my own rental, simply white. I’m finding that a clean slate does wonders for creativity and it’s been pure bliss.

Geometric – As a streetstyle photographer documenting New York Fashion Week, I’ll admit I experienced a bit of an adrenaline rush each time the big shows let out. When the crowd starts spilling out into the street, we’re faced with the challenge of which shots to chase.
After Marc by Marc Jacobs, I stuck with Elle Magazine’s Style Director Kate Lanphear, she of the iconic haircut. (Does her geometric turtleneck remind anyone else of lightning bolts?) In last week’s Daily Front Row, Kate touched on editors covering looks that are usually the opposite of what retailers end up buying, but knowing when a look is important. She said, “My job is to make people dream, and to get them excited about dressing in a new way.” For me, this couldn’t be further from the truth. I have to admit that I was never as excited about fashion while living in LA as I am in New York.
Stay tuned for Model Monday, up next, plus great news and some really fun StyleSpotting and features from the Brooklyn Flea Market, posting throughout the week.
P.S. David_Boots, I see you, too.

I spotted model Kel Markey before Marc by Marc Jacobs outside the 26th Street backstage door. This model is a bit of an anomaly because she wasn’t scouted. She took the initiative to use her high school savings from working at Honey Baked Ham to move from Florida to New York and worked hard to made it happen. In addition to walking Marc’s show, the 21-year-old also did Proenza Schouler, Louis Vuitton and Chanel shows for Fall/Winter 2012. I think it’s safe to say Kel’s bet paid off. I promised you Marc Jacobs posts all week and missed yesterday since I ran into a friend from LA, so you’ll find another fun MJ post Monday. <3

Marc Jacobs Theme Week - Because it’s Marc’s birthday week (and especially because I still have some fun shots from before and after his NYFW show), I’ll be threading more related photos throughout the week. Above, I spotted stylist and Fashion Editor Giovanna Battaglia and sisters Claire Courtin-Clarins and (below left) Virginie Courtin-Clarins. As many of you already know, all three are streetstyle stalwarts and I can never get enough of Giovanna’s extreme styles, captured around the globe. It’s no surprise she’s a former model and the sisters happen to also be cosmetic heiresses.

I posted Marc’s male models yesterday – and stay tuned for more on birthday boy Marc Jacobs this week. It was one of my favorite events from NY Fashion Week.
