Wow, my Unique LA Pop Up Shop was a fun adventure, but turned out to be a bit challenging after I was booked to shoot a pilot the same week as the event. I’m still recovering and looking forward to my first weekend off in a while! I met a lot of creative people and have a few I’d like to share with you, especially one I hope you’ll meet later. Wink. [More pix after the jump.]
I can’t thank my fun designers enough: Suzy LeQ from Rossmore, Kathryn Bentley of Dream Collective, Lana My, Thursday Friday and Mei Vintage. Paul, a heartfelt thank you for getting the show up and running with me and to Karina for bringing your stylish aesthetic. [CLICK for the full story.]
All Together Now – Amy’s carrying the Together Tote, a satirical take on status bags, in a cotton canvas fabric printed on all sides. These are perfect for office files, grocery runs and the gym. I’ll be selling these totes in Charcoal, Red and Oak at my Pop-Up-Shop this Saturday & Sunday at Unique LA. Look for us near the entrance in Booth #124!
The line Thursday Friday launched quietly with a Birkin print and was immediately picked up by fashion press, spotted around the globe and just lauded by Bill Cunningham. Want to buy your tote in advance to be wrapped and waiting for you? Just email me.
I let Amy take one as a modeling gift and she contemplated the RED tote.
She also clutched the OAK version.
She ultimately settled on CHARCOAL, which is perfect for all her fun ensembles I witness on a daily basis.
Thursday Friday is fronted by Roni Brunn and Olena Sholomytska, friends who were trying to find solutions for designing shopping bags that hinted at luxury and I think they came up with a clever take. I’ve known Angeleno Roni, a Harvard brainiac and pop singer, since her original handbag designing days over a decade ago. (I still have her purple ostrich brochette bag with gold trim.) The point is, Thursday Friday is a line to watch and I can’t wait to see what’s next…
Going on Record - I’m thrilled that Dream Collective will be offering discounted jewelry at my Pop-Up-Shop at this weekend’s Unique LA event in Santa Monica. The line is Kathryn Bentley’s very affordable oxidized brass costume jewelry collection that references indigenous cultures in a variety of textures. Her Silverlake shop is VIVIER BENTLEY that I’ve mentioned here. In just a bit, I’m picking up specific styles from current and past seasons, so if there’s something you’re dying to see at the event, please let me know. Be warned that her bracelets and cuffs are really fun to collect and stack. Definitely expect some of her colorful record bead necklaces, like above, adorned with African beads literally made from vinyl records and recycled plastics for a cool eco-chic touch.
I’ll be adding more about the pieces here and on the SHOP page. Hope to see you there where I’ll be with 250 other designers and artists. Here’s ticket info.
Shop til you Pop – I’m curating my first shopping event via SHOP StyleSpotting.com, a Pop-Up-Shop at Unique LA – this Saturday and Sunday – at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar (booth # 124). I’m especially excited to start announcing my designers, starting with sexy Suzy LeQ’s easy breezy line: Rossmore, named after one of her favorite streets in LA. It’s an artisanal line of small batch jewelry, so you can sense the energy she puts into every piece. She’s well known for her spirited aesthetic, layered looks, and she’ll even be on hand offering killer deals (so crazy that I can’t really publish them). Stop by booth #124 (near the entrance) to meet Suzy and get one of her gratis wish bracelets while supplies last.
The Scoop – I’ll be in good company among 250 hand picked designers and artists for Unique LA’s first westside event, July 30 and 31. It’s usually downtown and more attendees have RSVP’d than previous shows. Gulp, no pressure. I’m dying to show you the bag line I’m carrying – that’s even been endorsed by Bill Cunningham – so keep your eyes peeled. (Saturday/Sunday from 11-6 with more details after the jump).
Happily ever after – I was driving up Melrose today and screeched the brakes when I saw that everwas having a saleup to 70% off and left with some hip, black silk cargo pants. I have a couple of their T-shirts already and will never understand how they get them so incredibly soft (if melted butter was a fabric…), but know they source the world for materials for this luxury lifestyle brand made in LA. For Angelenos, get there stet for great deals, also available online. I also sneaked a peek [below] at the Look Book for their next collection, arriving in about two weeks.
Forever more - Each collection is inspired by their travels, last season’s focusing on the Pacific Northwest. Their next collection features a relaxed Indian/MiddleEastern vibe and I snapped a pic of their LookBook with her slouchy shirt and bubble hem shorts. Can’t wait.

Shoe Fetish – Ok, yes, we’re all clear that I have a shoe fetish, which started at age 16 while I was peddling shoes at the local Dillards. When I outgrew all my hard-earned shoes, I was crushed and shifted my fetish to bags. Only recently did I experience a fetish re-birth when I slipped into these Marni Runway Wedge Clogs at Mona Moore in Venice and was transfixed. More on that later, but they’re having a KILLER 50% OFF SALE on designer shoes and bags + they’re already starting to shelve their spring finds. SALE sizes are vaporizing, so call Sara at (310) 452-4070 to order your fave. Below are SARA’S QUICK PICKS – and below that is a hynotic MARNI video with my favorite clogs around 2:50.
