Framed – Fa Empel caught my eye, coming out of Intelligentsia on Abbot Kinney, sporting shades she designed for her company, CAST Eyewear. She was visiting from Bali, in LA for both work and Coachella. She described her style as always evolving, depending on her mood and hair style.

Baliwood - She prefers to shop vintage and thrift and has a lot of her silver and leather pieces custom made. When I asked where she likes to shop, she caught me a little off guard with, “I am from Bali. We make stuff over there. We don’t really shop.”

Style Profile – A Zürich story featuring streetstyle photogs Garance Doré and Scott Schuman advancing Miroslava Duma’s style profile — chose to use my image from this post, taken before a Marc Jacobs show. She and so many other Russians are in the news lately, stealing the streetstyle spotlight. I’ve also snapped Miroslava caught in the rain after Calvin Klein, in Balenciaga at Milk Studios — and have a cute video coming up, giving you a better glimpse of her style. I’ll also be posting a number of my archive images from New York Fashion Week and  a surprise soon, if you haven’t already figured it out…

Broadway Bound – I was seeing splashes of red accessories in New York and thought her Nike Wedge Sneakers were pretty cool and more practical for those who can’t spring for the Isabel Marant kicks that this model was wearing. What do you think is trending at Scoop?

She looked cool with the sleek rain boots and thought the color pop on top was a nice touch. In contrast, women uptown were doing furry black coats with expensive red bags I’ll show you next week…

Street Tough – I spotted German model Thomas Sottong after a Milk Studios fashion show last fall, completely tuned out among a sea of the fashion flock. Something tough about this one, approached but unapproachable. He reminds me of a street tough in a movie who will box you with his bare hands. Thomas is 20, hits the gym 5 times a week and says “Damn” is the one word he’d use to describe himself. Keep your eye on this one…

British host Louise Roe is on the go with some big news lately: (1) She just got engaged to this model (2) She’s hosting NBC’s Fashion Star and (3) STYLE Network just announced a few hours ago that she’ll be co-hosting the upcoming Pop Style, their first live series, covering all things fashion, beauty, lifestyle and pop culture.

Below, Louise shares her style tips and favorite things for Spring. I worked with Louise when she first moved to Los Angeles and she is truly lovely and unstoppable. Her outfit details are also below and take note of the Stephanie Oversized Clutch (that can fit a laptop) and the Juliette Nude Platforms she designed for The Louise Roe Collection, launched last October. (I’m now obsessed with these orange/blue shoes in the same style).

Q&A — Me: Care to share any of your favorite online trends and what you’re into for Spring?

Louise Roe: “My fave new online trends are searching for specific items on Polyvore and getting my specific item as soon as it goes on sale by using Hukkster. Actual pieces, I’m lusting after Express‘ new spring pistachio jeans and acid yellow crochet skater minidress.” Louise also told me she can’t wait to experiment with Maybelline’s new 90′s fluoro lip and eye colors and mentioned, “Spring is all about being bright and bold for me.”

Blue Hues – When Ni’ma Ford passed me in Soho, I had to sprint ahead of her to get this shot. Not easy on a crowded sidewalk, but loved that she made the effort to coordinate her leather gloves and felted hat as a fun contrast to the fur.

Smoking in Soho – I spotted these two as they popped out of Delicatessen and loved the way they made cold look so cool. (I’m such a sucker for a leopard coat.) Did you notice their hand rolled cigarettes?

Amidst a sea of black coats, I’ve been noticing a lot of people adding their signature twist to neutral colored coats that you’ll also witness up next, starting with a stunning stylist who’s a familiar face in the streetstyle scene. It’s always fun to see how New Yorkers can kick up their winter looks a notch and she nailed it.

Over the Rainbow – I spotted Angela Pham’s dress outside Milk Studios and went a bit bananas. You can get a closer look at the saturated striped dress in the VIDEO below. I’ve spotted Bravo’s Gallery Girl around Williamsburg a few times and her outfits never disappoint. I just had to know where she found this get up and she shared, “I bought the dress on eBay and get most of my finds on eBay. Lots of obsessive hours spent trawling eBay.” I also asked if she had any favorite vintage stores. She said she’s only been there once, but that Douglas Gardens in Miami was a recent find.

Walking the Walk - It was a soggy Brooklyn morning when I spotted her heading toward the subway. Do you know her? I was too intimidated to stop for details. It happens. I do know she’s wearing Opening Ceremony’s 10th Anniversary Limited Edition Varsity Jacket and the sleeve you can’t see is black. (What did we ever do before Google?) She’s carrying an  Alexander Wang Emile bag and I know her shoes are obvious, but can’t quite place them. It was nice to find that my first instagram streetstyle shot made it into the New York Times.

I also got something fun printed in Zürich for a story about Miroslava, Garance and The Sartorialist. More on that, up soon. If you’ve noticed I’m not posting as often, there’s some tweaking going on behind-the-scenes that you’ll start seeing in February, March and April…

Chain Reaction – Are you curious to see what it’s like to shoot at Fashion Week? Take a look at the VIDEO below, which I warn you is misleading. It’s never as easy as photographer (and ‘it’ girl) Candice Lake makes it look while she’s shooting her fellow Londoner Peony Lim (above). We can never usually get to shoot people in such a calm environment (and you’ll see what I mean when you meet JonCarlo)! VIDEO: Candice Lake shooting Peony Lim outside Derek Lam’s Fashion Show

Peony mentioned shooting with her friend Candice is a pleasure and I found she literally put the dress together herself. She tells me, “In the video I’m wearing two scarves tied together to make a dress, the shoes are Bionda Castana, the bag is Fendi, the belt is vintage and the sunglasses were from my store although I think they are sold out now.” [Note Peony's cute smock tops.] I also shot Peony here during my first fashion week and I’ll have to cheat and backpost for some other fun shots I snapped last February.

Past and Present – I’ll be posting videos from around NYC and especially Fashion Week and thought I’d include a past video of Italian blogger / designer Chiara Ferragni (The Blonde Salad). She’s always fun to photograph and it was crazy windy, so the audio interview wasn’t usable, but here’s a good look at her outfit below – and her amazing Hermès orange enamel bangle.

Chiara was a blogging law student with a serious shopping habit when her following took off (266,000 followers on facebook alone). She’s now also designing, working with brands like Burberry, traveling the globe for events and just curated these bright outfits for WhoWhatWear. More importantly, she’s recently engaged. (I just have to mention they’re so cute together walking around Fashion Week).

Tattoo U – I spotted tattoo artist Minka Sicklinger at Fashion Week, taking a break from contributing to jewelry designer Pamela Love’s Presentation at Milk Studios. Minka’s wearing Pamela’s pieces, including the Medium Tribal Spike Necklace around her collar. Minka grew up in Australia, loves her new Nikes, misses Marfa and just finished this running fox for Liam.

Oh, and I also spotted Pamela Love wearing her designs as she was leaving Milk Studios.

Love + Smythson – At the stoplight, he spun around and clutched her as tightly as he could. She was carrying one of these.

(I couldn’t find an exact color match, but wouldn’t mind owning Violet.)

Heyyyyyy – I spotted Alex on the steps of Lincoln Center and he told me he’d just shot a Look Book. Now, I’m curious to see what he sees. It looks like he had some fun with his shoes, no? Do you think he’d go for these by Lanvin?

I spotted a lot of this shade over a few short days. My latest color crush, I think.

I love the bouncy bras under tees, but it’s never easy to find the right ones. I took it upon myself to go on a mission and found a really cute affordable variety in black mesh, plum, Brazilian lace or this poppy print.

I spotted her at Lincoln Center and really liked her clever vintage finds. I suddenly have the urge to hit up ten thrift stores this weekend. Not even kidding.

Blonde + Baby Blue – I spotted Ulyana Bezeruk in simple pieces she punched up with smart accessories. She’s an Australian stylist, designer and blogger I met at Lincoln Center and thought she looked so cool in the baby blues. I shot a VIDEO so you could meet her and get a closer look at her clutch, a wrist tattoo that says structured chaos and a chunky unicorn ring she designed herself. Part Boy, Part Toy - Seeing Blogger Bryanboy always inspires me to, er, push the envelope a bit more, although never to his extreme. I spotted him wearing these over-the-top shades as he headed into Derek Lam’s fashion show and also before Ralph Lauren. The geometric sweater was cute, but even cuter from the back when he walked away. You must know I have a bag fetish and would love to own the leather clutch (Bryan tells me it’s by Oscar de la Renta! It’s the Elaph Envelope Clutch.) I’ll be posting more on Bryanboy, but have some other fun fashion finds to share first…

Blue Belle – I thought she was so striking with the contrast cobalt. This color is flattering on every skin tone, but thought she upped the ante by making the hue somehow netherwordly. Meet Linda Tol, a Lifestyle Hunter who describes her style as edgy/feminine and is wearing a Sportmax dress from this season. Just a few hours after this, I spotted Linda and fellow hunter Niels at Lincoln Center, already into their next outfits and I’ll be posting that bonus shot on facebook.

The Over / Under – I spotted fashion illustrator Jessica Repetto in these fun linen overalls and matching shirt by Band of Outsiders. Kind of hard to find sources for buying these, but found the overalls on sale here. A few of Jessica’s clients are Opening Ceremony, VOGUE.com, VOGUE Nippon and VOGUE Italia (not too shabby) and she did live fashion illustrations during the past New York Fashion Week. What does that mean? Check out her video here.

FIT + He – I spotted this cool gent outside Milk Studios during fashion week – and in the chaos, misplaced his card. Do you know him? He had his F.I.T. tote filled to the brim with free magazines and if I wasn’t bogged down already, I would’ve definitely stuffed my own bag at their kiosk, seen in the background here.

Now I’m wondering about his fashion forté…

I have some fun people coming this holiday week in VIDEO, including a Brooklyn photog in an unforgettable dress and a stylish gent who had a funny description for his colorful garment. Until then, here’s some fun Converse lust from HYPEBEAST.

Tongue in Chic – I spotted this white canvas reinterpretation of Balenciaga’s motorcycle bag in the West Village and was sunk. It’s the brainchild of designer Mary Ping of Slow and Steady Wins the Race, a label originated to create limited editions of well-constructed products and accessories as “social metaphor.” This bag is long gone, but she has a range of interesting pieces in the hopper, from this eyelet stamped sweatshirt, to an electric blue Kraft bag, to these tri-colored wedges.
