Framed – Fa Empel caught my eye, coming out of Intelligentsia on Abbot Kinney, sporting shades she designed for her company, CAST Eyewear. She was visiting from Bali, in LA for both work and Coachella. She described her style as always evolving, depending on her mood and hair style.
Baliwood - She prefers to shop vintage and thrift and has a lot of her silver and leather pieces custom made. When I asked where she likes to shop, she caught me a little off guard with, “I am from Bali. We make stuff over there. We don’t really shop.”
If you like her shades, her limited edition white version is still available here.

The Skinny - I’m phasing back onto the grid after some traveling, am firmly planted back in Los Angeles and looking forward to sharing some fun LA personalities, NYC archives and upcoming videos.

I spotted Mary, an LA blogger, on my favorite street in Venice, CA a couple months ago and fell for her ombre topknot and vixen lipstick. She launched the blog Fabulous on a Budget with her friend Leah (featured here), dispensing a range of tips for “living la dolce vita on a dime.” I ended up taking her streetstyle shot for Racked LA and thought I’d share her budget beauty tips with you, too. Catch Mary’s Five Ways to Save after the jump.
My Beauty Rules: First of all, I am one of the most low maintenance girls, so I choose easy beauty routines that are fail proof. Regardless of my attire, if I have red lips & a top knot, I’m insta-chic — even just grabbing coffee in the hood (like here). Here’s how I save on looking fab… [click to continue…]

I spotted Katherine in a breezy asos hat (and gorgeous Balenciaga bag) as she was waiting on a table outside Gjelina. She just moved from Silverlake to beachy Venice and told me, “I have really been taking advantage of walking to all the AMAZING restaurants here!” She shares her top picks below.
Katherine’s also wearing a Max Mara sweater, Current Elliot jeans and raybans. I’ve obviously spent a lot of time in Venice lately (can you blame me?), but will be posting some belated features and party people — plus streetstyle from a new adventure very soon. Have a great weekend.
Katherine’s Six Beachy Faves: Tapas and wine at Primitivo, fresh fish at Shima, the cheese plates at Venice Beach Wines and all out brunching at Gjelina (featured here); I could spend hours and hours there. I also love to start off my day by walking to Groundworks for a cup of coffee and next door there is an awesome little deli called Zelda’s which is a great place to pick up paninis and sandwiches for a picnic and amazing people watching on the boardwalk.

Esther Loves You – I spotted Esther Kim on Abbot Kinney and discovered she’s an illustrator who grew up in Los Angeles and Tokyo. She’s done a heap of fashion illustration and was recently interviewed by Japanese magazine GIRL Houyhnhnm. My personal favorite? Her VISA cards! I spotted her technicolor top knot as she was parking her car and just had to say hello before she headed into Firefly, the street’s perfect little one-stop-shop. If you’re wondering, her cute bag is Moschino.

Her clients include Nylon Magazine (US, Japan, Korea), Urban Outfitters, Ellegirl Korea, Anna Sui and Kid Robot. You can get to know her at EstherLovesYou.com.

Sitting in Sunshine – I spotted Laura on Abbot Kinney Blvd today, quietly soaking up the sun in accessories she’s picked up in Paris, Greece and Morocco. I liked the blue and purple hues flowing through her look, which gave me ideas for livening up my own grays. She’s sitting on a blue crate outside Gjelina Take Away (GTA, we say) that we all use as tables and chairs in a recess nestled between the restaurant and A. Kinney Court. I also spotted a graceful girl, an illustrator with crayola colored hair and Michael, who changed the patina of his eyewear to mimic a Japanese brand’s matte frames.

(Q & A) - I spotted actress Dawn Olivieri (Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Heroes) wearing Boho Chic during Abbot Kinney’s First Friday event, where a bevy of food trucks overtake the street. She was trying the event for the first time and was such a cool spirit that I wanted to know more about her and she was nice enough to share in below’s Q&A. She was actually on her way to Haiti for some volunteer work and shares more about her look and some tasty foods from that night below.
What’s the secret for pulling off the BoHo look?
Dawn: It’s all in the detail… earth tones, movement and rough edges. I don’t just limit it to the clothing either… for me, it’s how I live. Click for Dawn’s style story.
