Baby Blues - I spotted The Man Repeller a/k/a Leandra Medine this week celebrating the launch of Tommy Ton for Club Monaco. She was wearing the most breathtaking baby blue blazer and denim trousers (both by Ferragamo) and it made me crazy about swapping out my black duds for pastel palettes pronto.

She describes her full, enviable outfit here and not suprisingly, it was the way she wore her accessories that reeled me in, with the scrunched sleeves and trademark arm candy. Granted, her high valued wrist is more than mere mortals make in months, so please understand it’s not the brands (Hermès, Cartier) I admired as much as her mad embellishing skills. She’s of course sporting a colorful Dannijo necklace with skulls that give the high end look a whimsical flair (and I should blatantly plug her sheer Club Monaco tank since they were so cool to let me shoot the private event.)

In some of the posing shots we took (not shown here), I could’ve sworn she was swinging her fat engagement ring in toward her palm, out of sight. Am I crazy or has it not been published anywhere? If you are a good sleuth, you can catch it in the slideshow below…

Related Posts: You might recognize Leandra from my NY Fashion Week post here. She noticed something odd in my photos and it triggered her fun story here on seeing double.

NYFW: Leandra Medine

by Jerri Howell on Tuesday, February 21, 2012

in New York,NYFW,StreetStyle

Closet Case – I ran into blogger Leandra Medine a few times over the course of New York Fashion Week. She’s The Man Repeller and I found her to be, well, not so repelling. I spotted her above, after Ralph Lauren, and below, after Prabal Gurung. Always in killer shoes and enviable coats, but for some reason, I was really into her hats, specifically the way she owned the knit capper below.

I also liked her boyish vibe as she exited Prabal Gurung. You can check out The Man Repeller for all her outfit details. (This girl has some serious press, no?) You can catch a couple more photos, including one of her *trademarks* after the jump. (Literally, she trademarked the term “arm party” coined for the stellar stack of bracelets she’s known for wearing).  Click for more pix & her serious stash of bracelets >>>

shoegazing: Garance et Scott

by Jerri Howell on Friday, February 17, 2012

in New York,NYFW,StreetStyle

Toe to Toe – I spotted prominent street/style photographers Garance Doré and Scott Schuman right after Ralph Lauren’s fashion show yesterday and couldn’t resist taking a few snaps of these lovebirds. I remembered her story of these amazing boots here.

I’ve been a fan of her photos, and especially her irreverent storytelling, for a while now and of his graceful images for years. I said hello to Garance and asked about her fashion week webseries that just premiered, while her crew was plotting their next shot. She has a great twinkle behind her eyes. I’ve crossed paths with Scott after a few shows, but haven’t wanted to break his concentration as he scans the crowd for his next shot. Someday. Until then, I’ve chosen not to publish the images, but I can offer you a behind-the-scenes shot of Garance shooting for her webseries, up next!

NYFW: Jenny Rocks Tommy Ton for Club Monaco

by Jerri Howell on Thursday, February 16, 2012

in Bag Fetish,New York,News,NYFW,StreetStyle

Mystery Bag – During the Ralph Lauren show today, I took some snaps of this stylish girl and realized I shot her in Soho not long after I landed in NYC. It’s Jenny Olson carrying the messenger bag that popular streetstyle photog Tommy Ton designed for Club Monaco! This not-yet-released bag lands in CM stores March 20th, along with a backpack I also spotted today, which WWD claims will retail for $198 & $225.

Congrats, Tommy and thanks for the snaps, Jenny! Take a closer look at the bag after the jump. I’ve got to say that shooting New York Fashion Week around Tommy and other shooters I’ve admired has been a bit surreal. I can’t wait to see all their pics.  Here’s the bag >>>

Liz Cherkasova of Late Afternoon

by Jerri Howell on Friday, January 27, 2012

in Events,Los Angeles

Rouge Red – I spotted Liz Cherk, a model, marketer and popular blogger, at a Soho House event in LA. She has roots in the bay area and had recently moved to LA to put her media marketing skills to work for e-commerce brands. She’s wearing Alice + Olivia pants, a stylestalker blouse, a serious jewelry combo and I know at least one of those great rings is from Threadsence.com. She has killer style and a closet that must go on for days. She never expected her blog to take off like it did and appreciates that it’s lead to bigger opportunities. You can follow her outfits and adventures on Late Afternoon.

Other posts from this party:

[Editor's Note: Stay tuned for more Party People. I'll be posting photos of people from different parties I've shot in LA + NYC.]

Ready, Set, Go with Phil Oh!

by Jerri Howell on Tuesday, November 22, 2011

in New York,StreetStyle

Pattern Behavior – I met Brooklyn based photographer Phil Oh at the Tribeca Grand while he and his friends were having a flea market of sorts at the hotel. I ended up leaving with his plaid poncho, mohair sweater and a leather Maison Martin Margiela tote that has made its way around the globe. I just realized it’s the one he’s carrying in his twitter background pic. He’s the photographer behind global streetstyle website, streetpeeper, and also shoots for a variety of big brands. This is Phil getting ready for his shot you’ll see at the bottom. He also shared his personal style (spoiler alert: “kooky”), favorite shop and a little tidbit about shooting for Vogue after the jump.  Click it.

NYFW: Peony Lim’s Photo Frenzy

by Jerri Howell on Sunday, September 25, 2011

in New York,NYFW,StreetStyle

Photo Friendly – There were a lot of high profile bloggers at New York Fashion Week, so it’s hard to predict who was the most photographed, but I can safely say that London’s Peony Lim should win an award for the most published. I personally witnessed a line of photographers surrounding her for shots on Day 5 as she hit Lincoln Center’s plaza – and she was cool and collected. (To see what I mean, check out her posts: New York Parts OneTwo and Three). I just had to ask her a couple questions, which she kindly answered below.

Me: How does it feel being snapped by so many streetstyle photographers from around the globe – and more importantly – how does that influence what you wear?

Peony: Being photographed for streetstyle can be totally overwhelming. I think the only way to get used to it is to experience it, and even then sometimes it is a lot. It is the only time when a normal person has that situation. I don’t feel pressure beyond my own desire to look a way I like. When you love your clothes, it matters a lot less whether other people feel the same, since you’re so happy with them. However, it never hurts to have your opinion confirmed by others, does it?! If anything, being photographed is a huge compliment.

{ Peony is wearing all Miu Miu with Christian Louboutin shoes and an Hermes bag. }

Speaking to the streetstyle trend, she says, “I love to see the outfits of other women that I admire. I think it is inspiring to see how they take runway pieces and make them their own.” Peony went right from the thick of New York Fashion Week into the throes of London Fashion Week. If I’m ever curious to see what she’s wearing, I’ll always be just a couple clicks away from a number of angles.
