Fish & Chips – I should’ve gone to the Brooklyn Flea hungry because there was so much incredible food, unlike LA’s flea market. I spotted Phil picking up his order from Handsome Hank’s Fish Hut. (No, he’s not a model, but he does work in Fashion.) All that fish and stellar fries for $10. I cannot wait to finally try Smorgasburg (thanks, M) in this same location on Saturdays, stacked with food vendors and related wares. I won’t lie. I’m kind of wallowing in my new surroundings, but I’ve barely made a dent.

I used to cover a lot more Food + Bev when I was in LA and look for more fun NYC features soon – and specials guests.

Gjelina Take Away – This airy hotspot is the long anticipated annex of Chef Travis Lett’s Gjelina restaurant in Venice. At 8:30am, GTA starts serving coffee and homemade pastries to bedheaded locals, before adding lunch items at 11:30. I’ve spotted Miwa there a few times, who’s typically quiet, yet seems to speak volumes with her eyes. Today, I was able to catch her in a rare moment between customers to find out more about her style. {Click for more about Miwa & GTA}

Local Flavor - I’ve been meaning to try downtown LA’s hip Bottega Louie Restaurant, Bakery & Gourmet Marketplace since it opened 2 years ago and was finally motivated to make the trek with friends Jill, Nick and Pasha on Memorial Day. It was SO much fun! An amazing Italian brunch, colorful pastries and even more colorful characters. Come inside and see what I mean…

I met this colorful “balloon trooper” on the way in when I asked about her great shirt, which she got at a hippie Topanga Canyon store for 99 cents. She had done her research and found out Wackenhut is an international security force, so it seems to be part of a uniform. Funny. Here, she’s digging for her card and I’m pretty mesmerized by her creative endeavor. Click for more on Jihan, this hip resto and colorful pastries >>

Jesse and Zoe at Joan's on Third
Great Hair – I ran into Jesse at Joan’s on Third and I think he was surprised (and a bit embarrassed) that I wanted to snap his photo with Zoe. He’s an LA hair guru who used to be at my salon (Public Service) and just moved to Nine Zero One in West Hollywood this week. (If you’ve seen Blowout, it was Jonathan Antin’s original salon). Each time I went to Public Service, Jesse would be wearing something cool, yet understated (like great boots with the zipper up the back). I’ll miss his spirit and give Jesse a try at his new location (310) 855-9099. CLICK HERE to see some of Jesse’s faves >>

Styling at King’s Road Cafe. Literally. I ran into a few girls having a style session at King’s Road Cafe on Beverly Blvd yesterday – and you’ll see what I mean next week. It turned into a really fun mini photo session on the patio. Until then, I can offer you this Sartorial Style gent with impeccable taste. King’s Road is a mecca of hot style and people watching. I also got a shot of the most amazing bag ever, but that deserves a separate post, a style story and a small parade, up soon.

Snack Attack – Chocolate Marshmallow Pops at Sundance - Actually, I don’t know what these amazing treats are called, but that’s my moniker. My friend Tim got me hooked on Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory on Main Street in Park City, especially their hot chocolates and huge varieties of fudge and candied apples. (The sign outside says Dolly’s Bookstore because they share a space). Shhh, sometimes I went twice a day. The day I left, I lollygagged on the street until I found this handsome gent wandering by and traded him snacks for shots. A good trade, right? Find out why he was at Sundance below.

The good news is – you can shop ONLINE, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Try their caramel apples, handmade fudge, this snack assortment or this perfect variety of Rocky Mountain faves. PS that huge peanut butter cup is the size of my fist.

He liked it! Who is this guy I snagged off the streets of Sundance? He says he’s the ‘brother of the editor’ of the film “Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same” – but I think he was pulling my leg. Here’s the film on facebook and I might poke around to see what he really did on the movie. Here’s the current Sundance Flickr set and you can follow @stylespotting on twitter.

(Venice, CA) Fashionable Food – I’m phasing back onto the grid after spending the last 3 months in a dark, windowless edit bay producing for Style Star (premiering on Style Network this month and already airing via E! International). It’s the spunky celebrity red carpet show I mentioned here. More on that later, but all I can think about is the great food I’ve been missing, so Friday Foodie is back and we’re visiting Gjelina‘s menu.

Now this might look like a simple heirloom tomato and burrata combination, but each of Gjelina’s famous burrata plates is so completely flavorful and addictive that you’ll crave them long after you’ve gone. (Think grilled Warren pears with prosciutto or roasted beets with toasted walnuts and you get the idea). They’re well-known for their thin, tasty pizzas (seen below), so… Angelenos will be happy to know that they’re also opening a pizzeria next door within 2 months!

Sea Salt & Pepper Frites served with Aioli (above) and a tangy Romesco sauce

Mushroom, goat cheese, fontina & truffle oil. (Yes, truffle oil. So good).

Save room for a Strawberry Rhubarb Cornmeal Crisp (always coveted, but I’ve never had room to try it and now want to race there after finding this photo).
P.S. Each member of the staff is either ridiculously good-looking, exotic and/or incredibly interesting. (Ahem, you might’ve noticed a couple of them here and there on this site, but I’ll leave that puzzle up to you). I also shot Kaylee taking a call outside the restaurant over the summer.
Fellow foodies can download Chef Travis Lett’s tempting menus online. For reservations, call Gjelina at (310) 450-1429 or chance it at 1429 Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice, CA 90291
Photo Credits: The top shot is mine and a shout out to Muy Yum for the others, but please note his flickr rules before reposting any of these images. Thanks.
