Blue Chip – In honor of the MTV Movie Awards tonight, I thought I’d feature 20-year old music artist Colette Carr who has a new single out, (We Do It) Primo and you can watch her video after the jump. Colette’s a colorful artist who was discovered at a concert for the Game, where she was in the audience and volunteered to go up and freestyle before his show. The Malibu girl was instantly hooked and apparently so was Nick Cannon, who claims the eccentric singer is “what the music industry is missing” in this episode of her webseries “Life in the Day.” Cannon signed her to his label and her first mixtape was released last year. She seems to enjoy a significant cult following and I think she’s going to blow up. I shot her at a past Fred Segal event and her look is only a tad more subtle now, but she’s in no danger of blending in. Meet Colette Carr in the VIDEO below: CLICK HERE for the video & more Crazy Colette

Shopping with Mel last fall at Fred Segal Rocks in Santa Monica
Best of the Midwest – Remember Mel (Melissa Muoio), who I ended up StyleSpotting in Venice last year? She was just chosen as one of Chicago Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful – on newsstands today. Why am I not surprised? Congrats, Mel! She’s in LA a lot for work, so I asked her to give us a GO-TO GUIDE with her favorite Chicago + LA hangs. I’m locked in an edit bay, separated from reality and reminiscing about having a life. Except for a few events and old friends, I haven’t gotten out much lately, but had some fun recently when I stopped by a charity event at Fred Segal Rocks & Silk, a combo of stores recently taken over by retail veteran Joi Davis (above). For non-Angelenos, Fred Segal Rocks houses jewelry, bags and accessories and Fred Segal Silk has sexy undies, swimsuits, pj’s and underpinnings.

… and it’s not a party until the bongos arrive!

Carina & Lana always *Rock* the best layered accessories. Ask this team about the latest trends. The feathered earrings are from Lana’s own line sold there, Lana My. Carina’s always draping the best necklaces, from piled on to a simpler statements. I became addicted to these overflowing jewelry cases as Joi was taking over the store in March and stocking up a great variety of Erickson Beamon, Jamie Joseph, Anna Sheffield and Rossmore.

A cute couple shopping Fred Segal Rocks. If you’re wondering, everyone’s holding plants from Love Heals, a socially conscious jewelry line.

One of Joi’s jewelry designers wearing his unisex pieces I love.

When the bongos broke out, a lot fashionable friends hit the make-shift dance floor. Thanks for a fun event, Joi & Co! You might remember I mentioned her store in this post and my obsession with her Jamie Joseph rings. (If you look close enough at Christian Cloud‘s hand, you’ll see she loves these rings, too).

Loved how this 19-year-old fashion student dangled not one, but two LV accessories from his loops. I snapped his gift bag on the way out and have good news: I scored a couple gift bags for you and will choose 2 random winners who leave a comment by midnight PST on Halloween. Even better news, I’ve been sitting on a very fun Fred Segal spread I shot when a certain someone was in town and will tweet tweet when it’s up.
