Trending: Speaking of Snake…

Cuff Her – I think these leighelena snake embossed, buckled cuffs are hot for spring, and much more affordable than you know whose. I spotted these at Fred Segal Santa Monica during DailyCandy Deals LA Launch Party (posted here).

I had to run, but shot this so I’d remember the brand name. Love this color.

More, more, more… They say the difficulty in life is choice. Choose from thin, wide and double-wrapped bracelets.

Meet Ashley, designer of Esther Jean

by Jerri Howell on Thursday, September 30, 2010

in Designers,StreetStyle

Meet Ashley of EstherJean.com (1)

She’s bringing Victorian back – I met Ashley as we were both heading out of Fred Segal’s Mauro Cafe after a very long Fashion’s Night Out. I was sitting next to her table, full of stylish Angelenos and loved her look — pulled together, romantic and full of fantasy (not to mention the impeccable makeup). I struck up a conversation with one of her friends, an entrepreneurial designer you’ll be meeting soon, who let me know her first clothing collection was about to debut! You’re getting an official First Look at the emerging designer of esther jean. Ashley’s line will launch this fall and she just shot her line’s first Look Book last weekend.

Meet Ashley of EstherJean.com (2 supersized)

Ashley Esther Jean Hester is a twentysomething born and raised in Arizona and Esther Jean is a combination of her grandmothers’ names, women she calls “the root and soul to her existence.” We talked about quality, versatility and value being an important factor of her pieces. Her pieces may land at higher price points, but many will serve double duty. For example, a long flowy skirt may be pulled up to masquerade as a short dress as well as other surprises. You can keep an eye on her website, but I’ll also tweet when her collection is available. To get a taste, you can see some of her previous photos on the brand’s facebook page. Congratulations, Ashley and I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Meet Ashley of EstherJean.com (shoegazing)

The shoegazing was divine and I thought her giant plume (below) was insane and even embellished with 14k gold jewelry. Each one is one-of-a-kind design that you can custom order via her website.

For other Fashion’s Night Out stories, I caught Taylor Jacobson’s new denim line at Fred Segal Melrose while guest photographer Kwaku Alston was StyleSpotting on Abbot Kinney Blvd.  Coming up: Joi Davis’s event at her stores Fred Segal Rocks and Fred Segal Silk where I ran into designer Bartolo, met crazy Colette Carr, got schooled in streetstyle by Wasteland’s Jeff and stylist Mel Muoio found some fresh finds.

Kasil + Taylor Jacobson (1) Fashion Night Out

Kasil + Taylor Jacobson –  I had such a long week and didn’t think I’d make it to anything for Fashion’s Night Out in LA, but made it to Fred Segal Melrose just in time to catch celeb stylist Taylor Jacobson! Well, kind of. The event was over and she was on to cocktails, but was cool enough to come over and vamp with me a bit. She was wearing freakin killer skinny Minx denim with thigh high boots, but when I went for the full shot, she started, er, krunkin (?). I’m incredibly in love with Tay’s Mod Rocker Chic! (Her Chanel bag is an unusual copper shade and the necklace is vintage, she says). You can catch her super sexy denim collaboration with designer Kasil in the video below + more after…

Kasil + Taylor Jacobson (2) Fashion Night Out

I’m so glad that she struck out on her own and she looks like she’s having a blast. Her collaboration with Kasil is new for Fall 2010 and her philosophy is about every day accessibility vs high fashion and she elaborates in this hip video:

Kasil + Taylor Jacobson (3) Fashion Night Out

Ok, bye Taylor & Brian! For almost not making it out to #FNO, I struck gold with a few fun finds I’ll be covering over the next 10 days or so.  Stay tuned for that and more surprises…

Paula Abdul’s Cold Hearted Snake Clutch

by Jerri Howell on Friday, August 27, 2010

Paula Abdul's snake clutch (1)

Forever Your Girl was Paula Abdul’s first album and a big part of my youth because I danced my arse off (simpler times, my friend) to her hits: Cold Hearted, Forever Your Girl and STRAIGHT UP! So, when her mysterious snake clutch bag entered Belle Coeur’s launch event at Bettina Duncan in Fred Segal Santa Monica (more on that soon), I took it upon myself to follow said bag on behalf of bag addicts everywhere.

Paula Abdul at Fred Segal (3)

Above left, loved meeting this photographer (Joyce) and dug her rocker vibe. I got the impression she tailors her wardrobe around her shoots and tonight’s jewelry was definitely the rocker vibe from Miami based singer/songwriter/designer Jamie Jo Harris. Tara Solomon’s on the right and her Miami based firm (Tara, Ink.) threw the event. (I still have a soft spot for Miami after shooting a Bravo show there this spring).  [click to continue…]

Anna Sheffield, Jewelry Designer

by Jerri Howell on Monday, June 7, 2010

in Designers,Jewelry,Video

Rough & Tumble – I mentioned that Joi Davis at Fred Segal Rocks will be carrying more Anna Sheffield Jewelry. I should also mention Anna’s edgier Bing Bang that I fell for years ago, a tangle of mixed media chains. She originally wanted to be a welder, but eventually found her calling with jewelry. Meet Anna in action and check out the great photo shoot (and hypnotic music) in the video above by filmmaker Leslie Satterfield. You can also follow her blog hereClick here to ‘daydream’ over Bing Bang’s S/S 2010 collection

Fred Segal Rocks

by Jerri Howell on Sunday, June 6, 2010

in Designers,Jewelry

Fred Segal Rocks! Literally. See their Jamie Joseph Collection.

Ready to Rock? —  Joi Davis has taken over Fred Segal Rocks (hot jewelry & hip handbags) and Fred Segal Silk (luxury lingerie & sexy pajamas) as of early March and has a lot of stylish updates in the works. Joi was formerly Manager of Fred Segal Madison and is currently curating an interesting collection of stateside and European designers, one of which is Jamie Joseph. I’m dying for the above ring and am mesmerized by Jamie & husband Jeremy’s one-of-a-kind pieces.

In finding the right rock, Joi advises, “When shopping for cocktail rings, you should try different ones on and then see how they make you feel. Whether you’re going for BLING or something more organic, it should provoke an emotion. Jewelry is emotional and personal!” When I tried the ring above, it literally transformed me, so I have to agree. Expect to also see Anna Sheffield’s Fine Jewelry line + a more romantic and feminine collection coming to Fred Segal Silk. Stay tuned and I’ll let you know when Joi takes the stores online. Until then, check out one of Joi’s hottest selling handbag lines, the fringy SL McFadin.
