Coffee Stop - I spotted her taking a sip of in front of Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea on Abbot Kinney today before this group of friends rode off on their cruisers. (Yeah, I feel a bit bad showing jean shorts in LA while some of my friends are snowed in). The big gold watch trend and short shorts still going strong here and I’m loving her two-toned nails. Click both pics to see more.
Fit to be Dyed – I spotted stylish Mel, a windy city stylist in LA on business, during a Venice coffee stop. She had the infectious spirit of someone inspired and entertained by discovering the things other people might easily miss. Mel (Melissa) Muoio also contributes to UrbanDaddy.com, a lifestyle website dispensing hip daily tips both nationally and tailored to bigger cities. I was hypnotized by her leather bag (below), a hand-crafted Henry Beguelin she picked up in Chicago (ooh, there’s one here in Malibu). She was nice enough to go online to find the designer’s site for us, then looked at my site and loved the feathered shoulders in this post.
A girl after my own heart with her laptop propped on Elle’s huge September issue. She guessed her nail color to be OPI’s Siberian Nights, but it looks a little pinker. You can have a go at it with OPI color charts (when in doubt, you can’t go wrong with Bogota Blackberry).
Her airy dress is by Runaway Pony, a flirty and feminine Australian line also sold in the U.S. and Canada. { Click the image or here to SUPERSIZE the bag! }
And for the piece de resistance, Mel made this silver & leather bracelet by hand and it took six very patient hours. { Click the image or here for bracelet detail. } I hereby officially place my order if you make more. If you’d like to be in the loop if/when she makes more, please leave a comment below. Mel, it was so fun talking to you and here’s a toast to your new adventures. What adventures, you ask? Follow her at @MelMuoio to find out. (Oh, and while you’re there, you can always add @stylespotting). Ok, off to the beach now #roughlife.
Intelligentsia, Venice, CA – The biggest plus about living in LA is definitely the weather! It’s funny that we shiver when it’s 57 degrees here and that schools practically shut down when it rains. While my NYC were freaking about the snowstorms in February, I caught three friends enjoying flip flops in February. (See, I wasn’t exaggerating about those long lines at Intelligentsia.) We actually stopped our meeting to watch them (#easilydistracted). This reminds me a bit of the 3 Japanese girls dressed alike. OH – and I’m completely obsessed with CUFFING, but I’ll talk about that later…
StyleSpotting: Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow – Ok, I’m no expert on hair extensions — but I do know you get what you pay for. I was at the coffee shop and was going to ask her about doing a ‘California Girl’ angle, but this angle was much better, don’t you think? BTW, I am fascinated by all the fake hair in LA and don’t get it. Why the mandate and what am I missing here?
StyleSpotting: How to Make a Coffee Heart – It’s early and I can’t sleep. An earthquake just shook the house… for a loooong time. Safe to say I’m awake now, but in dire need of a coffee fix and Intelligentsia won’t open for a while. I am extremely obsessed with this coffee shop in Venice, CA – not to mention also nursing a serious addiction to coffee art. I’m not alone! The line is usually 20 people deep and nobody seems phased to wait.
Ok, my sister Janet just emailed that it was 4.4. I’m usually calm about earthquakes, but I’m really nervous for the first time. I’ll trick myself back to sleep somehow, but here’s a little video I shot sampling Intelligentsia’s coffee art.
I’m leaving you with half my heart… Don’t abuse it.
