Hear how Brandon made his DIY bling shirt for "The Price is Right" taping
Brandon got 'tagged' by friends after "The Price is Right"
Brandon, Come on Doooown! - Exactly how many times in my lifetime will I spot a group of cool kids after a taping of The Price is Right? Just once, which might explain why I leapt out of my chair at The Farm (next door to iconic CBS Television City) to try to get a shot of the guy who’d been “tagged” by his friends. We shot a short guerilla video about Brandon’s homemade bling shirt and whether he and his friends ever got called down. [Style has a story. You can watch the video BELOW.]
A special wink to you-know-who, momentarily abandoned during dinner for my tomfoolery. You can find StyleSpotting.com on facebook here and twitter here. Brandon & friends, thanks for playing and give me a shout when you see this!
Designing Duo – I spotted Evan and his wife Monica during First Friday’s food event on Abbot Kinney in Venice a couple weeks ago, and did a double take over his DIY and just had to circle back for the scoop. It turns out Monica is an interior designer and blogger at ourdesignedlife.com, with an eye for inspiring design ideas, tips, unique finds and lifestyle products. She knew Evan would wear out a simple patch up, so her solution was using thicker upholstery fabric. I especially appreciated that she zigged when others would’ve zagged and I must not be alone, because they’ve been stopped on the street many times. You can see all the creative details of Monica’s DIY here. You can also contact her there directly about interior design work. Oh, and can we talk about Evan’s 4 layered look? Love it.
I Heart Locals – Ok, I was instantly intoxicated by Matthew’s thrifted look as he made his way down Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice on his way to meet a friend for drinks last night. It’s so freaking hip, yet he makes it look completely effortless with the flip flops and half-tucked shirt trend that drive me mad (in a good way) on both men and women. What would you guess his shirt says? I heart locals? { Click the above image to Supersize it }

Handmade pocket square (or vintage fabric for another function used as a pocket square).
Matthew, thank you for the sidewalk streetstyle. Can you take StyleSpotting along on your next thrifting trip? Switching gears, I know I promised everyone Beverly Hills, but I’ve been finding too much fun stuff in Venice lately, such as snake sandals, vintage eyewear and knee-deep in DIY. Stay tuned…
944: The Nightlife Issue – I was wandering down Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice during their monthly First Friday event where I came across a lot of interesting characters with great style that I’m featuring this week. I spotted Jared flipping through his company’s 944 Magazine as they were ramping up for an event celebrating local tastemakers. He looks badass, right? I forgot to ask him how he gets his hair to do that. Jared, let’s make a video! Calllllll meeeee.
944 is a Fashion, Entertainment & Lifestyle magazine published in 10 metropolitan cities. Shhhh, I like lunching with the free copies at Fred Segal Melrose, like here and here.
Goro Jewelry & Accessories – I was stylespotting at Abbot Kinney Blvd’s First Friday event when Jarrett’s neckwear literally stopped me in my tracks. He shared Goro’s history with me, a Tokyo-based jewelry designer with a waiting list longer than the hordes of people lined up outside his store daily, trying to score his exclusive handmade pieces. How did Jarrett score not one, but two pieces? The Nike Design Director knows someone who knows someone, naturally. He says John Mayer has also been privy to Goro pieces, but that the designer (with Native American influences, it seems) is still pretty hush hush in the U.S. Jarrett, thank you for sharing and for reinforcing my tag line that style has a story.
For the record, I also dig how he wears it. While I shot Jarrett’s look, his wife shot my shoes which bemused me (can I see?). You can follow Jarrett on his trend scouting travels at JarrettsBlog.com. Fun to talk to you two in Venice and domo arigato for the impromptu sidewalk photo op!
