StreetStyle: Devon is a Whistleblower

by Jerri Howell on Monday, August 8, 2011

in Los Angeles,Music,StreetStyle,Trending

Trending: Falling Whistles – I spotted Devon Culiner - HELL & LULA guitarist – at a Pop Up Shop event a few months ago at Satine and was touched to learn that his band supported Falling Whistles – A Campaign for Peace in the Congo. I’ve since noticed that the non-profit has set up shop in the same building as Unique LA. Hmmm, I predict a groundswell of young influentials beating the street for this cause. You can learn the symbolism of these falling whistles and purchase a few different styles on the campaign’s website.

Devon’s HELL & LULA bandmates are Michael Alan Kolb and Russell Henson and they’re signed to Hype, MTV’s label slash incubator for emerging artists.

Talking Shop: Angela at Satine Boutique

by Jerri Howell on Thursday, June 9, 2011

in Los Angeles,StreetStyle,Talking Shop

Getting Collared – I was at this recent Satine event when I fell for Angela’s look. She’s an Assistant Buyer for this eclectic boutique and I loved her ornate Forever 21 collar against the boyish plaid shirt she got online. I don’t know women who could pull off wearing leather shorts, but she nailed it. I asked Angela where she finds deals online, her 6 favorite picks from Satine’s relaunched website and a peek at her genius DIY nails after the jump.  CLICK HERE for the full story & pix >>

Ladies Who LaunchWhoWhatWear co-founders Hillary Kerr (above) and Katherine Power (below) took over Satine on Third Street pre-LA Fashion Week to launch their book What to Wear, Wherethe how-to handbook for any style situation. I got sidetracked talking to some fun stylists and left without a book, but just bought one over the weekend and am devouring it. I was expecting a nice reference book to keep handy, but found it to be packed with great style solutions for hitting every event from A-Z. The co-authors include such style scenarios as art galleries, barbecues, errands, job interviews and even meeting his parents. Pick up a copy and get a sneak peek at their affordable W3 shoe line, featured in the book and below.

Whitney’s up next to get her book signed…

The Sirens of Satine – Erica, Alina, (Brandon) & Julia

Alina has a penchant for collecting Isabel Marant and is pairing the designer’s skirt with a vintage Jagger shirt.

Double Exposure - Had a lot of fun talking to twin stylists Angelica Gleason & Charlotte Gleason.

A closer look at shoegazing their new line.

CLICK THE PIC to order the book and their colorful, textured ideas will not disappoint.
