Deadstock Canvas Reunited with VansMike Dytri, founder of sportswear company Ludwig Van, scored a stash of decades old Vans canvas fabric at a warehouse sale, intending to spin the one-of-a-kind deadstock into a special release. Surprisingly, the streetwear designer eventually found himself working closely with Vans to create an extremely limited edition collection, available in only five U.S. stores. The 288 pairs of Ludwig Van X Vault by Vans dropped on April 8 and each pair is packaged with a matching D-ring belt, flip book, shoe bag and limited edition box. I met Dytri at the collection’s Santa Monica launch party at Conveyor at Fred Segal and have the full story, VIDEO and special offer after the jump.

Half Price Shoe Sale @ Mona Moore!

by Jerri Howell on Thursday, December 30, 2010

in Sale,Video

Order from Sara at (310) 452-4070 or online at MonaMoore.com

Shoe Fetish – Ok, yes, we’re all clear that I have a shoe fetish, which started at age 16 while I was peddling shoes at the local Dillards. When I outgrew all my hard-earned shoes, I was crushed and shifted my fetish to bags. Only recently did I experience a fetish re-birth when I slipped into these Marni Runway Wedge Clogs at Mona Moore in Venice and was transfixed. More on that later, but they’re having a KILLER 50% OFF SALE on designer shoes and bags + they’re already starting to shelve their spring finds. SALE sizes are vaporizing, so call Sara at (310) 452-4070 to order your fave. Below are SARA’S QUICK PICKS – and below that is a hynotic MARNI video with my favorite clogs around 2:50.

Sara's Quick Picks

Sara’s Quick Picks, in her own words: (left to right) Balenciaga military grey boot with wraparound strap – Marni oversized soft leather clutch and pony clutches in black earth and coal – Marni bronze bow clog sandal — Haider Ackermann runway grey leather and suede platform boots – Pierre Hardy Pony fur bootie, ridiculously good.

Marni fever!

shoegazing: $2,195 Rodarte Talon Heels

by Jerri Howell on Tuesday, November 16, 2010

in Designers,Los Angeles,StreetStyle,Video

rodarte 530 LR-5

Statement Shoes – Writing about post-modern shoes on Friday motivated me to try some serious shoes on for size. Along the way, I ended up StyleSpotting these incredible 4.5 inch talon heels by way of Nicholas Kirkwood for RODARTE F/W 2010. Kirkwood specializes in creating architectural statement shoes for designer runway shows (Rodarte, John Rocha, Ghost) and has quite a colorful past. Of course I just had to videotape one of my favorite trendsetters teetering in her talons. You can check out the VIDEO BELOW and catch more about Kirkwood at the bottom.

Nicholas Kirkwood is a German-born designer with an eclectic history working with milliner Phillip Treacy and even living with the late Isabel Blow before Visionaire’s Cecilia Dean hooked him up with Rodarte’s Mulleavy sisters. His mission? To be the next Christian Louboutin. You can find these $2,195 shoes at one of my favorite shops. @StyleSpotting

shoegazing: Badass Balenciaga

by Jerri Howell on Friday, July 23, 2010

in Los Angeles,StreetStyle

I spotted this leggy creature outside Izaka-ya by Katsu-Ya on Third Street in Los Angeles, where stylish denizens are forced to cram through a crowded door (you’d think it was a concert). She was probably close to 6-feet tall in the studded Balenciaga heels she bought a couple years ago in Istanbul and also sported a short black skirt and a slim white boyfriend blazer with the sleeves pushed up. I briefly stole her away from a handsome gent while she was taking puffs from a cigarette in a way that glamorized smoking.

Shoe Gazing: Giuseppe Zanotti

Stylish Shopper on Robertson & Beverly – Spotted these $900-ish Giuseppe Zanotti’s on a woman taking a brisk walk to the Starbuck’s intersection. She runs a cool shop in a high ‘hood and looks like a younger blend of actresses Natalie WoodJoanne Whalley.
