Seeing Red in Soho

by Jerri Howell on Saturday, February 16, 2013

Broadway Bound – I was seeing splashes of red accessories in New York and thought her Nike Wedge Sneakers were pretty cool and more practical for those who can’t spring for the Isabel Marant kicks that this model was wearing. What do you think is trending at Scoop?

She looked cool with the sleek rain boots and thought the color pop on top was a nice touch. In contrast, women uptown were doing furry black coats with expensive red bags I’ll show you next week…

Ni’ma Ford’s Blue Hues

by Jerri Howell on Monday, February 11, 2013

in New York,StreetStyle

Blue Hues – When Ni’ma Ford passed me in Soho, I had to sprint ahead of her to get this shot. Not easy on a crowded sidewalk, but loved that she made the effort to coordinate her leather gloves and felted hat as a fun contrast to the fur.

He lights her fire.

Smoking in Soho – I spotted these two as they popped out of Delicatessen and loved the way they made cold look so cool. (I’m such a sucker for a leopard coat.) Did you notice their hand rolled cigarettes?

Amidst a sea of black coats, I’ve been noticing a lot of people adding their signature twist to neutral colored coats that you’ll also witness up next, starting with a stunning stylist who’s a familiar face in the streetstyle scene. It’s always fun to see how New Yorkers can kick up their winter looks a notch and she nailed it.

If you’re wondering why I’ve been a little quiet, you’ll notice that I’m not in NYC for Fashion Week and I’ll have some fun things to share soon enough. Stay tuned…

Julen’s Modern Mullet

by Jerri Howell on Sunday, December 16, 2012

in Instagram,New York,StreetStyle

Framed – I spotted Julen’s modern mullet in Soho and loved his subtle style. My sister thinks he resembles a young Ryan Gosling. Hmm, I can see it.

For those who have asked me to take personal portraits, I will finally have a little time to pull a few of these off in NYC before the new year. You can email me here, if interested.

DIY Diego Bucket Bag

by Jerri Howell on Tuesday, August 14, 2012

in Bag Fetish,New York,StreetStyle,Trending

Dip Dye DIY – I spotted Andy with his hand painted Alexander Wang Diego Bucket Bag on Spring Street in Soho and had to know more about his DIY job. He’d been taking measures to keep his bone colored bag flawless, then decided to just paint it, which just involved rubbing it with acetone, then applying leather dye. Later that day, I spotted another man with an Alexander Wang shoulder bag, this time the Rocco Duffle – and think I’m onto the next men trend!

Black Bao Bao Bag

by Jerri Howell on Thursday, August 2, 2012

in Bag Fetish,New York,StreetStyle

Flip Side – This black Issey Miyake Bao Bao bag is almost the exact opposite of this shot I took on the same street corner in March with all the crazy colors and textures. The other shot even landed in VOGUE, Turkey. I don’t understand my fetish for this rubberized bag, but it’s nice to know I’m not alone.

Model Monday: Tatiana Turin

by Jerri Howell on Monday, July 30, 2012

in Models,New York,StreetStyle

Model Monday is Back – I’ve been overbooked over the last month (a nice problem to have), and happy to be bringing back the ever gimmicky Model Monday with Tatiana Turin [so so so NSFW]. I spotted the IMG model hanging with a couple of her model friends on a Soho sidewalk, all super casual and unaware that people were bumping into each other to get a better look at them. I mean, three models sitting together on Spring Street doesn’t happen every day.

Above, Tatiana is standing in front of “The Love Child” on a Crosby Street wall that’s since been painted over. I really liked the way the wind took possession of her hair here. I know it sounds silly, but whether I’m asking a model or civilian, it’s so flattering when people stop to let me photograph them. When they say yes, I still catch myself saying, “Really?” and need to stop.

Hyeyoung + Margiela

by Jerri Howell on Thursday, July 19, 2012

in New York,StreetStyle

Street Sleek – I spotted Hyeyoung locking up her bike at Cafe Select on Lafayette Street in the sleekest Margiela dress with killer accents. Witness the cuff, green bag and matching nails. I mean… is she all that or what? She makes it look so effortless. I find the array of black summer dresses here so interesting. Her high end dress with the accents had to be my fave, but I want to show you the others I liked, too – from Brooklyn to NolitaNolita again and Noho. They’re up next.

P.S. You must check out Maison Martin Margiela’s website pronto. Clever, no? For three sleek Margiela dresses, what do you think of the asymmetrical, a classic black silk dress or the more affordable MM6?
