The FACEHUNTER: Yvan Rodic

by Jerri Howell on Wednesday, July 20, 2011

in StreetStyle,Sundance 2011

Hunting the Hunter - I’ve been sitting on a little personal collection of images and video I’ve shot over the last year with a few interesting people I’ve run into. I’ve been hoarding for a few different reasons, but happy to finally bring them to light. First up, I shot the FACEHUNTER at Sundance! If you don’t know his work, Yvan Rodic is one of the top streetstyle photographers. in. the. world. He was hired to shoot there for Full Frontal Fashion and I ended up there on a whim with friends. I didn’t expect to run into him, but on my last day there, the streets were a bit sparse and there he was – this dapper man – walking toward me. I froze and a weird sound squeaked from my throat. He was so cool – and just look at that ensemble. It can be nerve wracking approaching strangers for a shot, take it from me, but he does it with ease. Want to see him in action? Here’s a VIDEO from his NYC facehunting:

The coolest thing is – we ended up shooting a few of the same people at Sundance, like Jazzy & Adwoa, Pollyanna (his here) and a street singer, so it’s like we have a secret handshake, right? Rodic has almost 50,000 followers on twitter, joining his journey as he shoots all over the globe for multiple brands. My latest addiction? His visual diary, stuffed with his cool travel shots, which only makes me itchy to take the show on the road. Who knows, maybe I’ll have another Rodic spotting in Istanbul one day.

Thank you to Driftwood for letting me snap Yvan’s book. (PS I love your store.)

I spotted Adrian Grenier in Superdry.

Superdry Classic Pea Coat Jacket at Sundance

StyleSpotting @ Sundance – So I never told you about my new obsession: Superdry jackets! Even before I caught Adrian Grenier wearing their classic peacoat. I was at a Creative Coalition panel at Sundance where Adrian (among others) was to speak about filmmaking and Superdry was the sponsor. They had a faux store display set up in the back corner, which was literally mobbed as everyone entered the event. I’m talking professional adults mobbing the Superdry section so massively that they had to shut down during the panel. So while the panelists were probably sharing intimate stories, all I could hear was the sound of my own feet shuffling to the back of the room so I could try to score a jacket when it was over.

Superdry bag at Sundance

And yes, I did score a jacket at the event – a cool, fitted windbreaker that was (sadly) lifted, when I sat the bag down to snap streetstyle photos a few hours before I headed back to LAX. Click to see Adrian >>>

Sundance at-a-glance

by Jerri Howell on Friday, February 4, 2011

Actress Pollyanna McIntosh (Sundance)

Who’s Who – At long last, I bring you a belated look at the rest of my Sundance faves. Pollyanna McIntosh starred in the Sundance film “The Woman” and I spotted her outside a Creative Coalition event with the filmmakers. When I shot this, I had no idea so much controversy surrounded her film after a moviegoer threw a fit about the violent film afterward – on video. Ironically for the guy, it only resulted in more buzz for the movie. I loved Park City much more than I expected and ended up meeting some cool, very approachable people [after the jump]. StreetStyle Sundance: Bag by Karla's Closet for Coach

Baby Got Black - Ok, I decided to hit Sundance for the first time and was at LAX 36 hours later, thanks to free digs (shout out to D&D). Here, I just got dropped off on Main Street and ended up spotting the best bag of the entire trip. It’s a limited edition and rather elusive COACH bag (of all things) designed by [top outfit blogger] Karla Deras of Karla’s Closet. I had written about Coach’s collection with four prominent fashion bloggers here. CLICK to read more >>

StyleSpotting Sundance: Best of Bags

by Jerri Howell on Wednesday, February 2, 2011

in Bag Fetish,StreetStyle,Sundance 2011

Chloe meets Chanel

Bag Envy – Yes, so many great bags at Sundance and a lot of the usual suspects wandering the streets like Chanel, Coach, Marc by Marc Jacobs, LV & Gucci – but I managed to spot an eclectic mix. But wait – there was  a golden goose not pictured here. My top pick for BEST BAG is the very first bag I spotted and deserves its own post, up next with a special pov of Main Street music. Until then, please to enjoy below { and there are some special treats when you click some of the pix }. - Click here to see the variety –

THE NEXT: Actresses Jazzy De Lisser & Adwoa Aboah

by Jerri Howell on Monday, January 31, 2011

in News,StreetStyle,Sundance 2011

Jazzy and Adwoa - CU copy

StyleSpotting Sundance – I spotted these girls on Main Street and there was something very magnetic about them, beyond the casual cool. Turns out they’re actresses who star in “to.get.her” by British filmmaker Erica Dunton. Jazzy De Lisser (on the left) plays Anna, a teenager who [er, steals?] her father’s credit card to get her friends to their beach house, where their secrets are bound to unravel and [spoiler alert] there’s a murder involved. It also turns out that I’m one of many who has pegged them as ‘it girls’ or ‘the next.’ Jazzy was listed as one of Vanity Fair’s new ‘it kids’ from London in 2009 – and Adwoa Aboah (on the right) is with Storm Models and was recently pegged as one of Vogue UK’s 15 Faces to Watch for 2011. {Click the Pix}

Jazzy De Lisser's great rings at Sundance

Of course I was smitten with their rings and Adwoa’s Balenciaga. I didn’t notice until after I left that they have a couple of the same rings. Wonder what the story is and what their cursive rings say. {Click the rings pics to SUPERSIZE – and the other pics for hidden images} [UPDATE 2/2/11 - Jazzy says she, Adwoa and the film's Chelsea Logan picked up the same ring (pictured on their right forefingers) at a gift suite and says, "It's kind of a friendship ring to remember the whole experience."] *More on these Lia Sophia rings below.

Actress Adwoa Aboah's Rings at Sundance

Their film screened in THE NEXT category — and Sundance just deemed them Best of THE NEXT! Congrats to Erica Dunton and these two fun future A-listers.

Catch John Horn’s interesting backstory [Los Angeles Times] on how Erica watching Jazzy’s life unfold via facebook inspired this story. The film also stars Chelsea Logan, Audrey Speicher, Jami Eaton and Jill Jackson. Seriously, how cool are they?

*I did some digging and a Lia Sophia rep says the ring is their “Concentric Square Ring with Black Diamond Crystals in Matte Gold from their new Red Carpet Industrielle Collection that debuted at Sundance.” @stylespotting

(Sundance) He tries a Marshmallow Pop at Dolly's

Snack Attack – Chocolate Marshmallow Pops at Sundance  - Actually, I don’t know what these amazing treats are called, but that’s my moniker. My friend Tim got me hooked on Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory on Main Street in Park City, especially their hot chocolates and huge varieties of fudge and candied apples. (The sign outside says Dolly’s Bookstore because they share a space). Shhh, sometimes I went twice a day. The day I left, I lollygagged on the street until I found this handsome gent wandering by and traded him snacks for shots. A good trade, right? Find out why he was at Sundance below.

Dolly had these great marshallow pops

The good news is – you can shop ONLINE, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Try their caramel apples, handmade fudge, this snack assortment or this perfect variety of Rocky Mountain faves. PS that huge peanut butter cup is the size of my fist.

Marshmallow Pop - I think he liked it!

He liked it! Who is this guy I snagged off the streets of Sundance? He says he’s the ‘brother of the editor’ of the film “Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same” – but I think he was pulling my leg. Here’s the film on facebook and I might poke around to see what he really did on the movie. Here’s the current Sundance Flickr set and you can follow @stylespotting on twitter.
